G.I Joe : The Rise of Cobra

This is perhaps one of my favorite movie I ever watched. My taste, however, is not the same as with those of critics. I found out that the rating of this movie is so low I can assume people would hate it. I've encountered this situation so many times, so I can just ignore it. After all, what does matters is my own taste, not others.

I'm particularly amazed with the action form this movie. It is not like other movie; when we are talking about action movie, we do expect action-packed movie. Not just a few actions and still called action movie. What a shame. The most striking scene is the scene when G.I Joe wants to stop the villains from demolishing Eiffel tower. I can feel adrenaline rushing through my blood vessels, the action was vividly rendered, and the sound is just amazing. Those 'flying' cars just make me terrified, but that's good. It signals the anticipation from audience.

Usually, I can feel bored when the movie is too long. This movie is an incredible exception. I watch it without feeling pushed back. I am so passionate I wish I could watch it again and again.

I also find out that the use of flashbacks so many occasions in this movie actually risen curiosity, thus keeping me in my seat. After some flashbacks between Baroness and Duke, I am quite curious on how a beautiful and kind Anna would become a heartless Baroness. The story of the Anna's brother, however, is not so surprising. For me, it's just a typical twist so that audience is expected to be surprised.

I really hope I can watch this again and again but there are many movies out there waiting.

Toy Story

It sounds weird and funny, but the fact is, I just watched Toy Story which was released 15 years ago. What a shame. I didn't have chance to watch since I came from a middle class family who couldn't afford going cinema. Now I have the chance.

I would say that this movie fulfills my expectation. I've known that this movie got 100% rating on RottenTomatoes, and it really worth that rate. I just didn't find any amusement because I already know what I was going to see.

Nevertheless, I enjoy the mixture of genre in this movie. It has some comedy, some action, some melancholy and even some horror. My favourite scene is when the Sid's toys seem to threaten Woody. They look quite scary and this movie finally get my attention. At the first phase of the movie, the pace is quite slow until the discovery of Sid, the bad boy.

I'm not saying this is not a good movie, but for me, I find it less amusing.

Verdict : 4 stars

North By Northwest

I just watched this movie. Honestly, I don't expect too much on classic movie because usually different time set different style. However, like Citizen Kane, this movie impressed me so well. Besides making me confused for quite a long time, it also presents a pretty good action beyond its production year.

I do think the genius of this movie is the plot, which is so confusing but still make sense. This is the real agent work, not like agents that we always see, with those freaking gadgets etc. I also amused of the cinematography in this movie. This is so true especially in the climbing down Mount Rushmore scene. I don't know if there any special effect, but certainly it looks so real, I was freaking scare.

Verdict : 5 stars.

A Bachelor's Word

You can say I'm not a good movie critic. It's like saying I love food but I'm not eligible to be a food critic. A movie critic, like a food critic, should know many stuff. Me? Besides the Cinema Study that I just finished in winter term, I don't have much knowledge about film. Still, I love to watch movie, even more so when I was taking the class.

I write this blog because of two reasons : of my love towards movies, and the influence from Julie and Julia movie. That's true. I don't expect myself to be continuous writing this blog. I expect my hectic life as a student will restrict myself for blogging. I will try to make every post as brief as possible. (Of course, without losing any significance content).

Here, I will write (or try to write) every movie that I watch, whether in cinema or on laptop. I would like to share what I feel about those movies, but, within my criteria. As I said, I'm not a movie critic, but I just want to share from my perspective. So, a good movie, for me, should have these criteria:

• It will not make me sleep (or asleep) because I have a very great trouble dealing with a boring situation.
• It will make me in high emotion between two extremes (sad or happy).
• It will make me say "This is a good movie!"
• A good movie, for me, is not like those good movies from other's perspective. It should be independence from others.
• It should not be horror genre. (That's why I'm not a movie critic)

I don't expect this blog being read by many readers. After all, just who wants biased critic? I just want to keep it for myself, that later on those good movie would be appreciated. That's it for now, thanks.
